Over the next couple of months, more and more players will reach Level 15 in the various Crafting Schools and begin to craft the Special Items. If you are planning to be one of them, you should start preparing now.
First, go to the R&D tab and select a school on the left tab. In the upper right hand corner, there is a Filters drop down menu. Change the filter to Show All Tasks. You can then see all the materials and Doff specialties required. Most should be self-explanatory. However, you may find that you do not have a required duty officer, even though you seem to have the right kind. The Doffs may also need to have a specific R&D School characteristic. These are seen if you right-click on them to read their complete Doff info.
While most of the specialties are obvious, some are not. Engineering, Science, and Shields all have Aegis projects. These require a doff with Aegis R&D School, NOT Engineering, Science, or Shield. The only R&D School: Aegis Doffs I've found are Bind-On-Acquire, and thus unavailable on the exchange.
There are various ways to acquire these doffs. Except for the Aegis doff, you can get them on the exchange. The commons and Aegis doffs are sometimes rewards for the Request R&D Assistance, and since they are random you have no idea if or what you will get. The VR doffs are drops from the Xindi lockbox, or at least its Duty Officer pack. The release notes also claim that Doffs with R&D abilities will now drop from Duty Officer packs from the C-store.
The Doffs with R&D specialties can not at present be sorted for on the exchange or in your Doff interface. Thus, you need to know the name in order to find it, or you can do what I did and spend a couple hours looking through specialties sorted by name. Someone must have done this already, as usually even the commons are usually 100,000ec+. Unfortunately, the KDF versions often cost a lot more than the FED versions. So, if you're unlocking boxes, do it as KDF!
As the demand for these Doffs is going to increase as people reach Level 15, and the supply should remain constant, I would suggest looking for a common doff to save it from being doffcrete. Also, run the Request R&D Assistance as often as possible. Fortunately, going forward, I would expect a more complete set of R&D School Doffs to become available, starting with Delta Rising. Perhaps new projects that use some of these schools are also in the works.

After that, I couldn't find much of a list. The closest I found was at LibertyTaskForce.com in their Crafting System Overview topic, which listed some of the Xindi VR Doffs.
So some pretty cool stuff there that even i was unaware of -
Had an UFPICA meeting last night - was able to set up a structure in a way - Sidak is getting the final touches on the " UFPICA Prime Directive " for posting - and then after that we will work on the elections to get a rep of each fleet in a pool to be voted from as a person to step up for a 4 month term as a UFPICA Co-Director. Further details will be included in the charter/policy " UFPICA Prime Directive "
New thoughts and questions were directed at me about the Academy idea i was doing my best to get up and running - I simply explained that there was just too much lack of interest. The ones who share my vision understand completely how it would supercharge a lot of things for us - but there are still too many people the administration has failed- It is up to the top brass to promote these things, bring awareness and explaining things wouldnt be a bad thing either-
But in a nutshell - it would be ran by ofifcers of each fleet - used as a workshop/training tool to send great new fleet members to all the monther fleets; So no more dead chat, no teaming, and completly helpless new guys - each cadet from the academy will KNOW how to be in a fleet and KNOW how to play the game - would just be a matter of getting the time in -
Running nothing but the alliance channel at the academy - promotes the channel even more to those who are already in mother fleet. All in all.. would be an amazing thing to have an academy.
On a side note: I do want to have two UFP Starfleet sponsored events within the next two weeks- i want to run a build/pvp or build/bind workshop- I wish i could just get lace to get a microphone so he could do one on setting up doff trekker - ive went through the spreadsheets and stuff - never actualy got my first doff mission time stamped - so i am still an utter failure when it comes to doff trekker- and im sure its not even complicated - i just dont care too much to dive into it while im ingame - and when im out of game- well - im just not near my computer....

Been pretty annoyed lately at everthing including STO - Just tired of helping people almost - more than some others i guess . some still value gameplay i guess- but for the most part - If it doesent make them the best by just pressing spacebar - then it dont work- and the same in real life as well almost to the exact image, substitute game play for self help...
As STO goes though...
I may just make a easy to follow a2b setup with pictures and everthing - and just give that away - thats what people want -

So a 7 box bind file with redistribute included slapped on a2b build - and then let them get stuck for the rest of their days in that build, never learning anything else- why should they? its what they want...
I tried to set some pvp thing up as a training workshop - and more important than the pvp match was the followup workshop- Talking about it in the channels last night all i got was well can we take this thing or special ship? can we take that special weapon? and they all tried ( besides sidak and one more ) to keep comming up with " what about scenarios " that obvioulsy - each time they asked - dug a deeper hole of ignorance for them to stand in- honestly - each passing inquerry was getting more rediculous than the other and pissing me off more and more ! why would they even ask about some of the stuff they asked about is beyond me - how would you expect a fair and level playing field? if they was the ONLY one with the super weapons?
and it was at that point i gave up on them - if they could not grasp flat out, the levling of a playing field - then grasping how to become more powerful than another person with the exact same set of tools is beyond them; they can always go back to the saying " not a pvp ship " - and by the way - next time i see " not a pvp ship/build" im gonna laugh in chat - and say " ya.. the pvp version comes without pilot error - you should try getting that one "

HEY !! maybe one thing i can learn from a video game to apply in real life is the ability to actualy tell people i dont give a shit -man would it be nice to not have to think about ohers feelings all the time to protect my own- especially to the ones that are rude to the other ones around them all the time. Who knows? i might go be one of those people - karmaplasticity - no one realy understands what that is. Only flaw in it i can ever find as it could be misused to ensure the cycle longer- But then i guess thats up the the weilder of it- but as for me - my biggest flaw is being terroized of having my feelings hurt.

Just got a new headset today. It's been almost a year since I used a headset for gaming. I hope this works well for me.
On first impression- the packaging was par for the course and setup was plug and play which for me was a very nice feature.
Fired up teamspeak to use the voice recorder check as for some reason that works better for me than the actual check built into my computers options. Was the first time that I really felt like the sound of my voice was accurate and from there I went directly to youtube and played a few songs over the headset and was satisfied 100%

Times are coming about again that I want to, perhaps, restructure UFP Starfleet.
It's seems my "no social policy" rule has the best of both worlds. A free and relaxed atmosphere for all but perhaps a little too "relaxed and free" where each person has become oblivious of their fellow fleet mate around them. The true underlying intentions of this post is to notify the fleet of an opportunity to flourish under a continuing democratic government rather than be oppressed under a totalitarian with ego/control issues.
It is true. My ego wants people to say hello to me and more so to their fellow fleet mates. My controlling nature forces me into attempts at inspiring others to be outgoing like me and, following my example, behave as I do. However it's always a great exercise in humility to know that one person can not be the center of it all and control everyone's well being. Who am I to know what's best for someone other than me? Even being wrong in some of my OWN choices for myself too - who am I ?
In other words. Just because I say hello to you and want to hang out and team up with you- I should not feel slighted or disrespected when that same courtesy fails to oscillate a type of karmaplasticity. But it does make me want to remove the completely inactive players in terms of those with zero contributions to the fleet in any form other than just a fleet name serving as advertisement in game; removing those like them I would eventually be granted a roster that yields only members that understands and exploits the true value of social interactions in a multiplayer game granting them an abundance of "Knowledge, Friendships, and Wealth" on the other hand it could be possible that I'm left with only fleet mates that pander to me seeking audience.
With new and returning players alike seeking active fleets it's such a great opportunity for them to find a fleet such as UFP Starfleet and yet, on the other hand, my leadership lately may have been a little too relaxed, as I feel that I lead best by example and all I have displayed lately is a very estranged relationship to fleet chat in terms of getting people to chat about STO, ground or ship builds, organize for teams. It seems that nobody has wanted to reply to any chat topics starters that I feel could lead to further fleet-mate/fleet-mate interaction that may or may not involve my further input. This has an unintended side affect- and that is the true "Selling Point" about UFP Starfleet being "Active" and "Friendly". That part has been passively removed. No longer does UFP Starfleet feel extremely "Friendly". It feels like a very big home where everyone else is sitting around just scrolling on their smart phones and nobody looks up or talks to each other day after day and it starts to feel like you "miss" the person sitting beside you knowing that in the past you and them have had MANY a conversation or activity shared together.
I have always said " A quit fleet is a busy fleet" and I throw out the "Like my ol' pops would say, "No news is good news"" But It's come to a point that the very exact rules that are being followed are the very ones that thrust people into a grind that keeps them up to pace with the game (which is the main goal). Knowing that they are not under any pressures to do anything other than log in and do what they want to do with their game time; affords them zero unwanted distractions from completing any goals that they may have set for their character(s).
Here are some rules that make the fleet VERY active and efficient - but at the same time, thrusts the very players in the fleet into a perpetual grind that leads to burnout and being socially unavailable.
20,000 fleet credit target for unlimited access to fleet stores and provisions.
No forced social policy ever.
long time active member needs zero contributions for unlimited fleet store access.
Alt friendly fleet that allows you to send your own alternate characters an invite to join UFP Starfleet.
These are some true "non-taxing" rules that promotes a very active fleet. Right now this fleet has 50 or more people that will log in every day and most of those account holders have more than one alt character logging in throughout their character rotation within UFP Starfleet, thus, putting our fleet roster 'metrics' around: 350 characters across 100+ account holders with log on's every 60 days and of those 100+ people, 250(characters) of them every 72 hours, and of that same 350(characters) we have 125 daily. Meaning- WE are by NO MEANS a dead fleet.
So knowing that people are out there - I'm very curious if people are still satisfied with the current state of the fleet and I, @Karmaplasticity, will begin sending out an "Officer/Admin/Owner" Evaluation Report" fleet email so that you can grade the admin staff INCLUDING myself. With that information I am considering restructuring the fleet to offer it up to someone else to govern it if my leadership proves to be unfitting. I will retain full ownership of the fleet and allow rank 6 to be in essence, "President" and all the powers thereof including all fleet modifications of policy, websites, etc. etc. up to but NOT INCLUDING renaming UFP Starfleet to anything what-so-ever, and hold an election within the fleets Discord Voice Chat server ( https://discordapp.com/invite/4Wg9cUu ) and perhaps a new form of leadership can bring out a new social vibe at UFP Starfleet that could be better.
All the above is what's been on my mind lately. That, as well as a feeling of wanting to 'explore' more of STO by visiting others voice servers, fleets, and social clicks. But I'm not able to take my eye of the fleet if I know it's not running in the VERY BEST operating condition.
better filter settings so i dont have to export my roster and view it with another program (which i can do now thanks to the guy who sent me the link to a program - you know who you are ) I would like to filter by @handle, last logon, join date, last promotion but be able to have tools to organize those filters according to fleet rank, player lvl so on and so forth.
I'd love the ability to summon one of my fleet mates ships to warp in and be a friendly NPC to help in my maps as a "Fleet Support" I mentioned this before but everyone just thinks of "Fleet Support" sci captain ability and that is not what i mean by "Fleet Support".
A button I can click on that will send a Red Alert style queue pop up to my fleet mates playing so that they can join if they like ( an option to disable this future feature would be mandatory )
More fleet queues added. Fleet vs. Fleet pvp where we can warp to a fleets starbase and attack it-- they can come in and defend.. IF not. Some minor penalty that rly dont mean crap could be imposed on them say like... Oh you lost-- you need repairs-- your fleet projects needs 10,000 stem bolts, and all that kind of junk. So like.. a fun project that grants a "loosers" fleet project to repair the base and remove some penalty granted on a fleet defeat ( loss of t3 research lab boost ) or something like that. Perhaps on a victory fleet ambush you can have a project that grants some kind of cool buff that's not really going to be a huge deal - like.. removes 30minute cooldown on fleet map queues or allows a project to "Steal Provisions" away from the other fleet ( but not rly - only a text title and a project to grant some type of fleet vs fleet buff )
I would love the holodeck to be utilized in a way that i can load up an mission and play it over and over - would not grant xp, drops, or anything of use but would allow a "testing ground" to load up a huge NPC and shoot at it- being able to pause it and include a in game combat parser so people wont have to download a 3rd party program to learn more.
An Armada Voice chat channel added, armada mail system added, better mail options so that fleet mail can be sent out to rank specific groups. Like. At this moment i have to copy paste 4 or 5 of the same mail to my admins or officers. Would be nice to mass mail all my rank 5's or 6's - or spare them a mass fleet mail by targeting only ranks 1-X for my mail.
Fleet devices added to enjoy some roleplaying with. Lots of cool things on the walls with astro charts and stuff.. Would like to see some animation on those or if money/man power was not a problem- add the ability to goof around with those pannels and change the pictures or graphs to some other display. I mean.. nothing of real use- but loads of eyecandy/roleplay fun.
Would like the ability to walk on my starbase exterior in an EV suit to make repairs as one of my "Officer of the watch" missions.
Add character portraits to fleet roster beside the name of a player or an ability to use a drop down menu on them to access their records and in that pop up window you have that picture ( im thinking of the window when you check a player info and you get the bio, ship, fleet name and stuff ) they can just reuse that code but allow fleet mates to use that game feature from the roster tab.
An option to save a short 3-5 second voice recording to play along with the MOTD flyby.
Better Patch/Emblem -- ability to import an img and use that. And the ability to use it as an emblem on the back of our dobok ( if we had them )
The ability to purchase zen store outfits as a "Fleet zen project" so that we can all have zen outfits in the fleet-- And yes.. i just took it to the "zen project" level of contributions.. Right now... we donate dil.... just let me donate zen to the fleet ( would be neat to see how that works the dil market... )
More fleet buff projects/consumeables. There's like 3 or 4 holdings where we have like....only two projects to pick from, one a dil only provision, and the other one. That's no variety at all. There is so much room for their imagination to have fun here by offering us projects that will buff us in some way or form. Better drop rates, faster recharge times, bonus craft slot for 20 hours - SOMETHING
Add passives like skill, xp, space/ground stat boost to team as more of the same fleet/armada members join the map.
Fleet theater we can all attend and watch trek movies/shows as an group. lol that would be super cool. I wonder if that would not be allowed with royalties and all that... What a shame.
In game voice recordings that can be sent out in a fleet mail that will show the senders character in a pop up window and animate their mouth like we see in all the other pop ups from our mission contacts.
Climate control (fog, wind)/lighting control and the ability to change songs at the disco floor to any other ingame song/recording ( Three Kurland Heres and then the beat drops ) --- what is one of the most bad ass fight songs in the game? .hmmm.. anyway.
Epic Hangar pets, make fleet weapons more fun by letting any rank character use them by offering them starting at mark 2 and not mark 10-12. Game would make more dil too - and more provisions would need to be purchased. This is one of my biggest ones i would like to see.
Allow reputation marks to be used in fleet projects. ( add a fleet project dump with a super fast 5-10minute refresh - Defend Against The (Rep Species) - Requires - (same old song and dance + rep marks ) reward would be bonus dil earnage in that reputation variety. ie.. play the map buffed. Project buff expires after that map reward is queued. This would allow us to stack the fleet towards teaming and running the new reputations and old ones alike.
whatever gives me power creep via teaming, more access to customization I'm all for. And man I'd love a working holodeck...did i mention that lol.

Here are a few questions now since the AMA thread is dead now, i hope your not too busy.
How do dev's "test" these new updates? What format or style do they use. What i mean is- im just going to look at tool tips, team up and use text/voice and compare notes and do anything we can do to track what we can change on those tool tips. But when a develloper want's to test a new item- how does that work? Does the Q&A dpt do the same tests as the systems design team ( like you used to do ) Can you give me some great tips on how to test out my stats and find bugs?
Is there a simple conversion i can use to check my space gear/ship stats page for an accurate tool tip from sector space and not have to travel to system space?
IF this NOT good info - may i have the formula for acc overflow vs defense. Will overflow apply in fire at will? Scatter Volly, Rapid Fire, Beam Target Subsystems.
What is the best/most accurate description i can give to my fleet mates on how the wpn pwr lvl will affect wpns after 100. Before I was under the impression that at 50 wpn pwr and no other bonuses your wpn tray tool tip would increase up to 1 1/2 times the ship screen tool tip at 125 wpn pwr. Now with the new changes, what is this sliding scale that i can try to understand in "like im 5 yrs old" terms. At first glance and doing no real investigation i am guessing i need to get to wpn pwr ~160 to get the same return i used to get at 125. What is current MAXIMUM possible subsystem powre with traits, doffs, boffs, skill tree, mastery, captain abilities and so on so forth?
Can you correct my statement here so i don't give bad info. " The difference between dmg rating and dmg magnitude is that the magnitude is displayed on your real time tool tip while the damage rating is displayed on your gear tool tip" And how can i direct my fleet mates to figure out why some gear tool tips show a % dmg restance and others show a + dmg resistance. So far- i explain to my fleet mates that the + dmg is stats that can be tallied up on the ship stats page and is the same kind of stat that we spend into on our skill tree. Second. I tel them that the % dmg tool tip on the gear is telling them that they need to look at the total points into the skill tree ( not ship page ) and take that % tool tip from those stats and then add it on top of the skill for the new value shown on ship stats. Example 10% dmg resist on a skill tree of 100 would give +10 to armor.
With energy drain applying to the first beam that fires, would adding your best beam in the first fire order be best now b/c of the 1 second power transfer rate? Before with the first beam being free to shoot- the second one taking away energy lvl and the PTR returning full pwr by third beam goes off, it was ideal i think to have my best beam in 3rd fire order.
Will duty officers that grant +kin dmg with brace for impact and various other doffs that grand dmg resistance be granted a "physical, electricity" rework?
Many other rep traits and personal traits are far lacking a competitive choice over some others- will there be more attention gave to these less popular traits?
And please for the love of god 2 requests- can we have a working holodeck on fleet starbase ? Add then can we have a target dummy program for testing?!?!? omg please !!!
Ok- i have WAY more questions but I'm happy if you read this much. I do leave you with this thought tho. The fact that i was unable to participate in an event that got me closer to the devs b/c of some kids admin powers on reddit site is unfair. The activity on the reddit site was enough for even your own post to give credence as to why your choosing this sites traffic over your official sites traffic. It's a shame... Right or wrong for me to feel it, but none the less, i feel that after spending 1000's in this game over the 5 or 6 years ive been here and my relentless dedication as one of the lifetime customers and active spenders, I've got the worst customer experience lately b/c of reddit and simply have NOTHING to do with that stuff, or do they? I had to private message you on their site b/c of stupid in game ego/drama that spilled over to this website. I can't post anything w/o getting so many downvotes. My karma crap was great before the drama in game-- now i hardly stay with enough karma to post on reddit in general. Can you ask them to not use their petty in game drama against me?

Been going through another one of those STO cycles that seem to hit me about once a year.
Lately I have come to a point where I'm starting to be honest with myself and thus, starting to get a little interest gained back into STO.
Let's just say the season "re balance" has kicked it all off for me. I went from being able to put up 200k dps with any T3 ship or above using virtually ANY setup and now I have not yet broke 100k dps with any of my ships on any of the ISA maps ive done. Granted- i am puggin the maps with ppl doing less than 10 dps now and maps tend to drag on forever-- but every now and then I will run into someone doing 80k dps or so and I will look them up on the log reader and see how they did it. Most times they all tend to be following the same path as i am, meaning, they are virtually using the same equipment setups/configurations. And so I think -- "what the fuck"
Something is going on that I do not know about - but n/m that- getting WAY off topic. My point is that since this nerfing of all my tactics and gear I'm left feeling utterly broken. For several other reasons.. One - Most people before that were only doing about 20k-30k dps probably - in all reality - seen a buff come their way and so have no problems with the re balance. This leaves me in a bad spot in terms of being rather useless to most ppl in my fleet now b/c they dont need any help !!!
When I'm all out of things to do- I want to involve myself as much as possible and lately -- hell.. i'll log on for 6 hours for the entire week when, well, before... Before I'd log on 6+ hours per day !
I can see the fleet suffering b/c I'm not out there finding new ppl and the ones that have been true blue and stuck around are all the shadow grinders. They never say hi or anything but i know they are there and will reply back if i mail them. It's a double edge blade to my ego. On one had I'm super happy I got things right -and ppl are very happy where they are at fleet wise and on the other hand - by my own design, I find myself sitting in silence when i log on and say "Hello" It's very hard to keep focus on what is right and what is emotion when that goes down. Sucks.
So- lately I've been trying to get back to what has always kept me around STO and that thing is UFP Starfleet.
